Was planning to make it to Wat Damnak for the workshops at 4, but got was so tuckered out that I slept till 5.

No matter! Managed to catch a tuk-tuk in time to catch Filiz’s workshop – choreography for EVERYONE, not just the trained dancers of Amrita but Bhopana movie-makers too. Seems to be she’s teachin’ them a new way to walk.

Filiz: So you are pulled by your nose. So it’s really like your nose is like..

Filiz: And now it’s the chin.

Filiz: Now the back. And the rest of the body relaxed.

Filiz: And now the pelvis.

Filiz: Find a partner and just put your hands on the pelvis, to give your weight.

Filiz: And then we change.

Filiz: With your hand, not your fingers. With your hand.

Filiz: And now the shoulders.

Now they’re sitting in a circle, working on the muscles of their face. Externalising emotions.

Filiz: Angry. Sad.

Sokunthy: We express emotions through the eyes. And we cannot control the eyes. The eyes are connected to the heart.

Filiz: But it’s also muscles. So it’s not about making a big mask. It’s like a passage, it’s like travelling. These muscles are travelling. It’s a kind of struggle. And also you can maybe make the separation in your hands. So posture. It’s possible to add the hands and the wall. But you can think this way for all the body.

Time for dinner.
